Blogging Struggles: Feeling Stuck

blogging struggles feeling stuckIf you’ve been following me on Twitter for the past couple of weeks, you might have seen me tweet about feeling uninspired and my lack of motivation to write new content for the blog. This has been going on for too long (in my opinion) and I don’t know how to get myself out of this rut that I seem to be in. I want to write blog posts and share new content with you guys but I just seem to have to force myself to actually sit down and do it.

The exact same thing happened today. I’ve known since Monday that we would have a post going up today as that’s what our schedule looks like. And I opened WordPress at least a dozen times and I even went to write a new post but I just kept staring at the blank post template and went to do something else after a couple of minutes because I didn’t want force myself again. But then today I figured I would have to write something because I didn’t want to not write something. I really don’t want the blog to go without an actual post when there’s supposed to be one.

So, what did I do? Well, I figured I would open a new post template and just see what would happen. And as I kept thinking about it, I figured I would just write about how I have been feeling lately. We’ve got quite a big readership at this point and I figured some of you guys have probably felt a similar way at some point in your blogging experience and I was hoping you were willing to share some tips and your experience in general!

I’ve had really great experiences with sharing my feelings about blogging on here in the past and just simply hearing you guys’ stories has often been a great motivation to continue going and your tips have been very appreciated too!

Beth actually mentioned in a recent comment conversation we had that I might be having a blogging burnout which was a really interesting thing to hear because I hadn’t thought of it that way before. I had never really felt this way before and I’m currently trying to figure out how I got to this point.

July was such a great blogging month for me! I had written most of my posts for the month really early in the month and scheduled them all well in advance and didn’t have to worry about a thing when it came to blogging, which was a really great feeling to have. I’m wondering if by getting myself out of my rhythm of writing posts more regularly I influenced my enjoyment of blogging. I feel like when I was writing new posts every other day I was much more motivated to do it!

It’s not even like I don’t know what I could be writing posts about as I have a bunch of ideas drafted and could start on them at any given moment, but I just don’t feel like writing any of them? Or was that a mistake I made? Giving myself a list of posts I should/could write instead of just going into writing with no guidelines what so ever? Do you have a list of ideas in an easily viewable place? Or do you keep them in an extra document and away from where you would see it all the time?

How about you guys?

Have you ever been in a situation where you just absolutely didn’t feel like writing new content for your blogs? How did you deal with that? If you’ve got any tips or experiences to share with us, please do in the comments! I would really appreciate it! Thank you.

  1. It’s so easy to get uninspired especially after having such a great blogging month before. I just wouldn’t force something that won’t come.

      1. Oh no! Maybe you just need a little break from things to get your motivation back? I wouldn’t delete quite yet! You might change your mind afterwards and being able to come back might be a better solution!

      2. Yeah that’s what I’ve been thinking, I was thinking of starting over and posting it on here then if any of my follows want to follow they can. This blog started as fun now I’m constantly worrying if it’s good enough so starting over might be better for me and not let it get to me. I love your blog and your posts though try to relax and not worry i hope your inspiration and motivation will come back

      3. I really hope that whatever you decide to do works out great for you! And thank you so much, that is so sweet of you to say! I hope things work out for you too! ❤

  2. Oh Swetlana I am sorry you’re having a bit of a blogging burnout.
Like I must have said before, back around the middle of the June this year I experienced the same thing myself. It was an effort to write posts and I either had to force myself to (which I never want to do because blogging is supposed to be fun) or I just didn’t write them at all.
It does pass, and it will for you as well. This is kind of just like a reading slump but for blogging instead. Hopefully you’ll come across something to inspire you pretty soon and then you won’t be starting at a blank WordPress draft (we’ve all been there) trying to find the right words. 🙂 ❤

  3. Oh, it’s so easy to get in a blogging burnout! For me, since I plan out the month’s posts the month before, I don’t run out of ideas of what to post at the time I’m going to post them. But I DO run out of post ideas when I’m planning ahead, if that makes sense? And when that happens, I just hop over to my favorite blogs and read some posts on them, to get inspired! Hope you figure it out, Swetlana! 🙂

    1. I was reading your post last night all about how you write and plan posts, so it does make sense! 😀

It’s not even that I don’t have any ideas for new posts, it’s that I have no motivation to write them. I’ve got an entire list of posts I want to do.

Thank you, May! I hope so too!

  4. Happens.. Happens all the time! I guess planning and scheduling helps.. Like I study and research for my post before hand and then post it on some other day…
Also helps if you have two or three ready posts saved in drafts which you can publish anytime!! I save these posts for the days I don’t feel like writing or for the days when there are sudden emergencies and I am not in a position to write a new post!!

    1. That’s probably what I should have done last month instead of scheduling them all right away and have them all be published! I might have to work on a bit of a cushion once I feel like writing posts again to avoid these kinds of situations in the future. Thanks for the tip! ❤
